You’ll no doubt have received messages on LinkedIn or Twitter from people offering to boost your connections by 1000s for just $10. But do you really want connections who have no interest in what you have to say? Cutting corners is not the answer to growing connections on social media. Hard work is – there is no getting away from it. Here are a few suggestions for the boosting your connections:

– Tap into people you already know – friends, family and work colleagues – get them to follow you and spread the word.

– Do the obvious and champion your channels, for example, if you are presenting at a conference use the occasion to promote your accounts.

– You’ve heard it so many times before – great content is key. Make your content shareable.

– Keep focussed – don’t spread yourself too thinly across too many social channels. Stick to the ones your potential audience are most likely to use.

– Advertising can work, but make sure it is targeted.
